Small Donation to Cambodian Children Residing in Thailand Whose Parents Have Emigrated

Updated: Apr 23, 2023

I recently had the opportunity to visit a small school in Thailand that provides education and care for Cambodian children whose parents are migrant workers. These children might face many challenges and risks, such as poverty, discrimination, exploitation, trafficking and statelessness. They often lack access to basic services, such as health care, social protection and legal assistance. They also struggle to integrate into the Thai society and culture, as they face language barriers and social stigma.

The school I visited is run by a local NGO that aims to empower these children and their families through education, advocacy and community development. The school offers free kindergarten education, life skills and extracurricular activities. The school also provides psychosocial support to the children and their parents. The school has a strong focus on promoting human rights, cultural diversity and social cohesion.

I was deeply moved by the stories and experiences of these children, who showed remarkable resilience and optimism despite their hardships. They were eager to learn and participate in the school activities, and they expressed their hopes and dreams for the future. They also demonstrated a strong sense of identity and belonging, as they proudly shared the culture and heritage with me.

I & some representatives of Cambodian AIT Student Association decided to make a small contribution to support the school and its mission. We donated some books, stationery etc. for the children. I also volunteered to teach some classes and to help with some administrative tasks. I felt honored and humbled to be part of this inspiring project, even for a short time.

I hope that my small contribution will make a positive difference in the lives of these children and their families. I also hope that more people will become aware of the situation and challenges of these children, and will join me in supporting them. They deserve our respect, compassion and solidarity. They are not only our neighbors, but also our fellow human beings.
