A Workshop on "SMSE Outlook: Ecosystem and Sustainability" Organized by Global Entrepreneurship Week

Updated: Apr 23, 2023

Today I want to share with you my experience of attending a workshop on "SMSE Outlook: Ecosystem and Sustainability" prepared by Global Entrepreneurship Week, which was held in CJCC, Cambodia on November 19, 2017.

Global Entrepreneurship Week is an annual initiative that celebrates the power and potential of entrepreneurship across the world. It brings together millions of entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, researchers, educators and supporters to foster innovation, collaboration and growth.

What is SMSE? SMSE stands for Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, which are businesses that have fewer than 250 employees. SMSEs play a vital role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as they create employment, income and livelihood opportunities for millions of people around the world, especially for the poor and marginalized groups.

The workshop I attended was organized by Global Entrepreneurship Week as part of their efforts to support and empower SMSEs in Cambodia. The workshop aimed to provide insights and guidance on how SMSEs can thrive in the current and future market conditions, by adopting sustainable practices, leveraging digital technologies and building strong networks. The workshop featured speakers from various sectors and backgrounds, such as government officials, academics, business leaders and social entrepreneurs. They shared their knowledge and experience on topics such as:

- The current state and trends of SMSEs in Cambodia and the region

- The challenges and opportunities for SMSEs

- The best practices and strategies for SMSEs to achieve sustainability and resilience

- The role of innovation and digital transformation for SMSEs

- The importance of collaboration and partnership for SMSEs

The workshop was very informative and interactive, as the speakers engaged with the audience through presentations, discussions, Q&A sessions and group activities. I learned a lot from the workshop, such as:

- How to assess the environmental, social and economic impacts of my business

- How to align my business goals with the SDGs

- How to use digital tools and platforms to enhance my business operations and reach

- How to network with other SMSEs and stakeholders in the ecosystem

- How to access funding and support programs for SMSEs

I also had the opportunity to meet and connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs who attended the workshop. We exchanged ideas, contacts and feedback on our businesses. I found some potential partners and customers among them. I also made some new friends who share my passion for entrepreneurship. In addition, I had the opportunity to meet H.E. SOK Chenda Sophea, the Secretary General of The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).

Overall, I had a great time at the workshop. I gained valuable knowledge, skills and connections that will help me grow my business and contribute to the sustainable development of my country. I want to thank Global Entrepreneurship Week for organizing this workshop. I hope they will continue to provide more workshops like this in the future.
